Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT®)

What is Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT®)?

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT®) is an innovative, non-invasive therapeutic method for treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system.  It uses high oscillation frequency and magnetic field strength, also known as effective transduction power to enhance the body’s healing response. The EMTT device is called Magnetolith and it is  approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

How does EMTT® work?

The applicator, therapy loop is positioned over the area of pain.  High oscillation frequency (100 – 300 kHz) and magnetic field strength (> 10 mT), resulting in a strong effective transduction power. The faster the magnetic field pulses or the higher the effective transduction power, the more pronounced the bioelectrical activity in the organism will be. The high oscillation frequency also enables a high penetration depth (up to 18 cm) and a large range of applications.  These high energy magnetic pulses are then transmitted to the body, where they take effect. EMTT® treatment have a positive effect on chemical reactions in pathologically altered cells by reactivating cell metabolism and normalize cell physiological processes .

How is EMTT® differ from other PEMF

(pulsed electromagnetic field therapy)

devices?

In comparison to EMTT®, PEMF therapy are low frequencies (1 to 10 kHz), low magnetic flux densities and superficial penetration depths. EMTT® has higher oscillation frequency (100-300kHz), stronger magnetic field strength, deeper penetration, therefore, resulting in stronger effective transduction power.

What are the benefits of EMTT?

Relaxation of muscle spasms, prevention or retardation of disuse atrophy, increase local blood circulation, muscle re-education, immediate post-surgical stimulation of calf muscles to prevent venous thrombosis, maintaining or increasing range of motion.

What conditions do EMTT® treat?

Joints: Wear and tear conditions such as osteoarthritis (knees, hips, hands, shoulders, elbows), herniated discs, spondyloarthritis (vertebral joints).

Pain treatment:  acute and chronic pain, including back pain, lumbago, tension, nerve root pain (radiculopathy).

Sports injuries: (Chronic) inflammation of tendons and joints, tendon overuse syndromes, inflammation of the pubic bone (osteitis pubis).

Are there any side effects with EMTT®?

Mild pain at the application site and reddening/skin irritations that may last 1-2days. Otherwise, EMTT® is a largely risk-free and side effect-free method

What are the contraindications to EMTT®?

Pregnancy, active implants with electrical battery/power source (pacemaker, cochlea implant, insulin pump, bladder pacemaker, retina stimulators, neuro stimulators) and the following treatment areas: head, face, tumor, infected, inflamed area or skin eruptions.

What should be expected during a treatment?

A patient will find the therapy very comfortable. The therapy loop is positioned over the area of pain while you remain fully clothed – direct skin contact is not necessary. For areas such as the shoulders, upper back, low back and hips, you may feel some discomfort, such as a dull ache, which you have control over the discomfort’s intensity. For other areas of pain, you may not feel anything, but therapeutic response still occurs. A single treatment session lasts between 5 and 15 minutes.

How many sessions are needed?

It depends on the severity of the condition and the response to the therapy. Between 6 and 8 sessions are required, once a week or twice a week apart.
